Fitness Evaluation
Who Can Benefit From A Fitness Evaluation?
If you have thought about starting a fitness program but are not
sure how to begin and what exercises are best for you or if you
exercise regularly and want to measure your progress, then a fitness
evaluation will assess
your present level of fitness accurately and quickly.
What Happens In A Fitness Evaluation?
In the first half of an evaluation, measurements of body
composition, aerobic fitness, and musculoskeletal fitness are taken and
these are used in the second half to council the participant on
effective ways to work on the areas that need improvement. A full
evaluation lasts two hours.
Body composition measurements include height, weight, body mass
index, waist girth, skin fold measurements, and fat percent from
bioelectrical impedance analysis and tables.
Aerobic capacity is measured by a modified step test (mCAFT) and an
aerobic fitness score is calculated and compared to tables normalized to
Canadian populations. Recovery rate of pulse and blood pressure is also
determined.
Musculoskeletal fitness tests strength, endurance, leg power
production and back fitness through trunk flexion, pushups, partial
curl ups and a vertical jump test.
The counselling session uses these measurements as a basis of
discussion for an individualized program for health enhancement.
Through a discussion of healthy lifestyle practices, activity interests
and motivation, we set appropriate fitness goals that are designed to
fit into your life style. Where appropriate, nutritional and wellness
counselling and relapse prevention are discussed.
